Organic fertilization is completely different from a chemical program. Chemical fertilizers add nutrients to the soil that plants can live on. However, at the same time, they destroy the beneficial microbes that are found in healthy soil. This sets up conditions for pathogens to flourish. Even a single application of chemical fertilizer does significant damage to your soil. Many of the plant problems we see in our customers’ yards are the result of using chemical fertilizers.
​Rather than feeding the plant directly, organic fertilizers work by feeding the microbes found in healthy soils, thereby increasing their numbers. They include beneficials such as mycorrhizal fungi (which improve plants’ ability to take up water and reduce the need for irrigation) and bacteria that combat the pathogens that rot off the roots of your grass. Organic fertilizers encourage the development of beneficial microbes that make food for plants. When these microbes are healthy and active, you don’t need poisonous high-nitrogen chemical fertilizers.
