Why Use Lava Sand?
Most landscaping companies either use mechanical aeration or rely on chemicals. At Marshall Grain, we use lava sand applications to perform aeration because we've seen the beautiful results it produces for our clients. When top-dressed, lava sand gradually penetrates the soil and provides the same improvement for water and air to penetrate. This effect lasts for about a year (until the lava sand works its way below the root zone), which is generally a longer time than with mechanical aeration. Because it lasts longer and is cheaper than mechanical aeration, we believe lava sand is a superior approach to mechanical aeration.
