Ferti-lome Fire Blight Spray

Fire blight is a deadly bacteria that can kill susceptible plants, including Apples, Crabapples, Pears, Pyracantha, Chrysanthemums, Rhododendrons, Dieffenbachia, and Roses. Because it is a bacterial infection, it requires aggressive treatment with streptomycin.

  1. Mix 1 tablespoon of powder per 2.5 gallons of water (or about 1.2 teaspoons per gallon) inside a handheld or backpack pump sprayer.
  2. Apply the first round of spray right as the blossoms begin to open (10% bloom).
  3. Reapply the spray every 3 to 4 days.
  4. Stop spraying antibiotic treatments once the fruit becomes visible.

Fire Blight Spray is best applied in the early morning, late in the evening, or on a cloudy day when winds are calm and no rain is expected for 24 hours. This prevents the sun from burning the wet foliage.

Be sure to remove any infected wood: Cut away any blackened, wilted, or cankered branches. Cut 8 to 12 inches below the visible edge of the infection into healthy wood. Sanitize your tool after each cut with a disinfectant and dispose of all debris.
