Non-Invasive Texas Wisteria Minds Its Manners
Texas Wisteria (Wisteria frutescens) is much different from Asian Wisterias, which are invasive in Texas. This woody deciduous vine is a well-mannered substitute that gives you similarly massive and fragrant bluish-purple flowers along with shiny, dark green leaves. But while its vines can extend up to 30ft., its stems are much thinner and less destructive to brickwork and trellises. As a native to the piney woods of East Texas, it prefers acidic soil.

Your Dead Plant Could Have a Disease
What's killing your plants? It could be a disease called Phytophthora Root Rot.
Phytophthora (pronounced “Fi-toff-thor-a”) is an organism that lives in the soil, and under the right conditions, it can spread through your yard and kill your trees, shrubs, and even perennials.
Unfortunately, pruning off the dead branches won't fix the problem. And because Phytophthora isn't actually a fungus, fungicides don't help either.

We've had real success treating it with biologicals — beneficial bacteria that help fight back against Phytophthora naturally. This problem is serious enough that we're now treating the soil at all of our new landscape installations as a preventative measure.
If you're noticing anything like this in your yard, give us a call. We're happy to come take a look, help you figure out what's going on, and treat it for you — or we can set you up with what you need to treat it yourself.
