Here's a Texas native palm tree that grows more like a shrub and is able to withstand both extreme cold spells and droughts. Called Sabal Minor or Dwarf Palmetto, it typically has no trunk. Instead the fan-shaped leaves emerge from an underground stock, which makes it one of the most cold-tolerant palms in the world, capable of surviving temperatures as low as 0°F to -5°F.
