Cottonseed hulls have been used primarily as a livestock feed. However they also make a great soil conditioner, much like cottonseed meal. They can also be used as a very attractive, but very light weight mulch. Cottonseed hulls decompose rapidly to release nutrients such as nitrogen (0.62), phosphoric acid (0.14) and potash (1.00) into the soil. Because the material is very light material, it is recommended that you add a top layer of another mulch to help prevent scattering.
